The Demons want to play more games at Manuka Oval (despite drawing a crowd of less than 12,000 last weekend.) They reckon they make a loss on the games they play against the Brisbane Lions and Sydney at the MCG, so they need to look at alternative venues. Where could they play these troublesome games?

Jeff: Why not move a game to Mount Bulla? It might snow but they play soccer in the snow in England. They use a special orange ball.

Paul: It’s a longshot but I think maybe they should think about playing in front of some big crowds at a little ground that I like to call the MCG. If they focussed on finding some supporters in their home town then maybe, just maybe, they’d have a successful club on their hands.

The Demons were caught short despite a spirited performance against Collingwood. It’s been a big week for the Demons who celebrated their 150th birthday on the weekend. They have some claim to being the oldest sporting club in the world- 20 years older than Manchester United and 44 years older than the New York Yankees.

Eddie McGuire claimed yesterday to have struck a deal with the Kangaroos that they will wear their ‘away’ jumper whenever they play the Pies. If true, Kangaroo fans would be unhappy to think their jumper has been sold out! read the story

Question is, do you think the Pies have to just suck it up and get an ‘away’ jumper?

Jeff: “If it’s a team’s home game, why the hell should they have to change their jumper? Too many teams have similar strips. I like Richmond’s alternative strip. It’s still got the yellow sash with just a bit more yellow on the side.”

Paul: “We are celebrating 150 years of AFL… These teams have been playing each other for a very long time… I can’t see why we need these alternative strips!”

The Toyota great moments commercials keep on coming and this time the Flying Doormat, Bruce Doull is getting involved. We have sneak preview from the set of the new ad featureing a re- enactment of Kevin Ablett stealing Bruce’s headband, an act that made the doormat mad with rage but what we really want to know is: will Helen D’Amico make a cameo? Helen was the famous streaker in the 1982 Grand Final that harassed Bruce wearing nothing but a Carlton scarf. There is a rumour that she was at the shoot but lost her nerve and refused to come out of her trailer to take part in the commercial. I guess we will have to wait and see… Our idea was to turn the tables and make the Doormat run into her trailer in the buff.

This weeks Footywrap takes place on Blue Sunday at the MCG. Jeff and Paul donned the blue ponchos to support prostate cancer awareness and check out the Richmond Collingwood clash. There were plenty of thrills and spills in round 3. Kruezer’s long awaited debut didn’t disappoint, he looked brilliant for the Blues (although they did lose to the Bombers.) Justin Kositzke wasn’t quite as impressive. His high five landed in Nick Riewoldt’s eye! Also discussed is a bizarre incident in which Robert Harvey appears to give Jason Akermanis the ‘Squirrel grip.’ Watch the video and make your own mind up.

As a supporter, I hate the word ‘competitive.’ Too often it stands in place of ‘we lost but we’re glad it wasn’t a thrashing.’ For struggling teams it is a word that qualifies a loss but for Champion teams it’s about winning and losing (not by how much.)

The Demons face Geelong this weekend. Perhaps this is why Melbourne coach Dean Bailey is setting his supporters up for a ‘competitive’ loss. I counted him using the word 27 times in his press conference at the MCG on Thursday. Don’t believe me? Watch the video.

Jeff goes into the Carlton dressing rooms this week to talk to ‘Supercoach’ Glenn Manton and ‘Jayco’ Jim Lawson (these guys are seriously funny.) Glenn channels Northey, Walls and Barassi to give Jeff a tirade on whizzing in public and tittie bars that he won’t soon forget. Many will remember Glenn’s antics from The Footy Show but his Supercoach character goes well beyond the tired old trollop that Channel 9 have been serving up on the Footy Show this year (Billy Brownless!!?) Glenn won ‘Best Improv’ at the Trades Awards last year with this character. His ability to think on his feet is very impressive and Jayco Jim is a brilliant sidekick.

‘The Spray’ is part of the Melbourne Comedy Festival that starts this week. It’s held in the Carlton Football Club change room, which is pretty cool in itself but the show is a cracker as well.

This weeks episode is co-hosted by Daisy Pearce. Daisy is the captain of the Darebin Falcons who are the reigning VWFL premiers. Daisy is a superstar footballer who played her junior footy with the boys until she was 15 before gaining all Australian selection in the womens league at age 16. She’s probably best recognised as one of the duo of girls (the other Shannon McFerran) who played with the old fellas in the EJ Whitten Legends game in 2007.
