Buckley retires
I’m about to head down to the Lexus centre where Nathan Buckley will announce his retirement. Buckley, 35, will explain his decision to the media and then to the Collingwood family tonight at the Copeland Trophy count tonight at Crown. The fact that he felt a slight twinge in the troublesome hammy late in the game during the preliminary final might have informed the decision. Bucks played 280 games for the Pies and Brisbane Bears and has a Brownlow medal in his pool room.
The implications for the trade period are huge. With the retirement of Clement and Buckley, the Pies must have freed up some serious cash. Paul is convinced that they will pursue Darren Jolly to satisfy their Ruck dilemna. They can probably afford him and a couple of others now.
