RESERVES BACK?!?
Finally talk of a National AFL reserves competition! Apparently coaches and clubs are sick to death of not being able to oversea the development of their young (and fringe dwelling) players. Do you think that the league will actually reward our die hard fanaticism by scheduling some of these games as curtain raisers? Or will we have to get a good posi at the Punt Road Oval for a 9am Sunday start? Speaking of which - Richmond will be wrapped when the Reserves comp kicks off - they’ll get to see Kent Kingsley pull on the boots!

From memory the best Reserves player for the year was awarded the Gardiner Medal - named in honor of Frank Gardiner, a past president of the competition. A fitting name? Figure Michael Gardiner will get plenty of chances making it his own at St Kilda.
Superfluous Footy Fact #789: Tony Liberatore (affectionately known as Little Gouger) won the Gardiner Medal twice. First in ‘86 and then again in ‘88. He then went on to win the Brownlow Medal in 1990. This double was never repeated again. The last player to win the now defunct Gardiner Medal was D. Healy of the Saints. Please submit your suggestions for naming the new Best and Fairest Reserves Player Medal to the blog….
